WEEK STARTING MONDAY 23RD OF OCTOBER

MONDAY THE 23RD OF OCTOBER

It has rained all day again at the kennels but thankfully it was dry at Shelbourne like all Mondays we had to be fed up early and kennels done early as well there’s no other work, we could do at the kennels other than cooking and cleaning and feeding owing to the weather. The traffic was quite going up to Shelbourne Park and the same when going home and for the second week in the row and couldn’t believe it there was nobody at the Shelbourne when we arrived at 1 o’clock.

ON THIS WEEKS GREYHOUND STAR BRITISH PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK WE HAVE TWO HOUNDS ON THIS WEEKS LIST SWIFT ICONIC IN SHEFFIELD AND SLIDER MCCOY IN YARMOUTH

Tuesday 24th October:

Were doing Tuesdays journal on Sunday morning. I forgot to mention on Mondays journal that my head lad Padgie’s son became a teenager. We had to meet Ross Myles who was taking hounds to the UK to their new owners. We also needed food for pups. At the kennels it rained all day so we tidied up the garages, vans and gave my house a clean.

ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE ONE RUNNER TONIGHT AT SHEFFIELD INCA GERRY.

Wednesday 25th October:

Wednesday was the busiest day we’ve had in a long time. We built a French drain out the front alongside the road. We only got half of it done as it was 5 metres deep and 100 metres long.  We hit the gravel bed and the water that runs off my place is now all channelled into it and the flys away. We also had John Nolan here putting hounds into their identity book and earmarking pups. We needed meat. The day went well. I thought Newcastle fought hard and were a little unlucky in the Champions League. Were probably short of a player or two.

ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE ONE RUNNER AT HARLOW: SWIFT UNO.

Thursday 26th October:

If my mother had been here she would have been 96 as it would have been her birthday. The day got off to a bad start as a very good friend of mine lost his wife. Whatever happens when you have greyhounds, the show has to roll on, dogs have to be cleaned, fed and looked after. We needed fish which is starting to get scarce and more expensive. There’s major problems with salmon as they are dying owing to global warming. It was a nice dry day. We did a tidy after digging the trench. We did a swap around with pups and saplings, mothers and pups. We also needed food for pups.

ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE FOUR RUNNERS TONIGHT. AT HOVE: SWIFT UKRAINE. AT SWINDON: MOHICAN CLIVE, MOHICAN FLORENCE AND SWIFT QUARANTINE.

Friday 27th October:

Swift Iconics mother Swift Biology is in season. I took her to Droopys Stud to get mated. We needed all our waste away. There was a whole lot of bits and pieces to collect such as sawdust and maintenance work.  At the kennels we prepared hounds for schooling which took all day.

ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAD ONE WINNER LAST NIGHT SWIFT QUARANTINE AT SWINDON. TONIGHT WE HAVE THREE RUNNERS. AT ROMFORD: YOU TWO. AT NOTTINGHAM SWIFT SERENA, CHURCHILL LULU. AT SHELBOURNE PARK: UNANIMOUS KAI

Saturday 28th October:

I took Saturday off and did a bit of shopping, watched Newcastle United against Wolves, got a bit of food for pups and that was my day. At the kennels we prepared more hounds for schooling and that took all day. On the Greyhound Star Irish Performance of the week we have one hound on this weeks list: Fawn Crualaoi at Curraheen Park.

WE HAD ONE WINNER LAST NIGHT AT ROMFORD: YOU TWO. TONIGHT WE HAVE THREE RUNNERS. AT MONMORE SWIFT PARK AND DUBAI KID.  AT PERRY BARR: SWIFT PALOMA

Sunday 29th October:

Its a typical Sunday at the kennels. My head lad Padgie has the day off. We will tidy the journal, do paperwork and that’ll be it for today. I have said it for a good while theres going to be a massive shortage of greyhounds. Were not far away from it. In 2008 there was 5000 litters breed. In 2021 there was 2500 litters breed. This year they say there will be around 1600 which is approx 9000 hounds. We need 12000 bare minimum for the UK and Ireland per year.

WE HAD ONE WINNER LAST NIGHT AT MONMORE: DUBAI KID. TONIGHT WE HAVE RUNNERS. AT HENLOW: CALICO BRIN AND SWIFT QUESTA AT CENTRAL PARK.
