MONDAY THE 12TH OF JANUARY
I day tripped England as we have ran out of paper bedding. At the kennels john nolans was here earmarking pups. We continued on with the maintenance work and we did a tidy up in the garage as we were expecting Kasco dog food. On this weeks greyhound star British performance of the week we had two hounds on this weeks list at Romford Tiffield Tarquin and at Sheffield Swift Hostile. I copied the write ups from the star and put them below.
The first two Category One competitions of 2026 are underway. The Coral Essex Vase kicked off at Romford on Friday night and it was Tiffield Tarquin who produced the quickest of the winning performances. The Mark Wallis team are mob handed with stars in the event but Roy Peckham’s runner has held his own against some of the biggest names in the sport over four and six bends and continues to fly the flag for the smaller kennel.
There was a dead heat at Sheffield on Sunday with Colliers Bucholz and Swift Hostile sharing not only the spoils of the race itself but also the performance of the week award. The pair produced an excellent battle for the win, with the former getting his head down on the line to join the latter for a share
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAD ONE WINNER LAST NIGHT AT SHEFFIELD SWIFT HOSTILE.
TUESDAY THE 13TH OF JANUARY
The frost is now gone thank goodness and it was more like a spring day today in Ireland then a January day. I was at the vets for our weekly trip. At the kennels we had to be fed up early for the main job of the day trialing in Kilkenny. Swift Silly had her pups to Hawkfeild Ozark she had a litter of nine 6 dogs 3 bitches pups and mother doing fantastic. At 7:30pm we have now updated the dog for sale page of the trials at Kilkenny , Done Monday and Tuesday journal and I’m now going to watch Newcastle united play Man City in the league cup semi final come on the toon.
WEDNESDAY THE 14TH OF JANUARY
The weather has changed to the better and the last few days have been like Spring. We are flat out preparing hounds for schooling. I got all the waste to the dump and we did maintenance work. Newcastle united are as good as out of the league cup after there 2 nil defeat to Man City.
THURSDAY THE 15TH OF JANUARY
Another day where we were preparing hounds for schooling. We changed the beds in the kennels. Went to the cash and carry , the hardware and Dealz so we are just about fully stocked.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE THREE RUNNERS AT HOVE SWIFT JARVIS AND RULES FOR SOME. AT MONMORE DUBAI KID.
FRIDAY THE 16TH OF JANUARY
Were getting up to frost which then turns out to be a lovely day. We needed factory meat from Northern Ireland so I had to collect it. It was another day where we prepared more hounds for schooling. We had hounds leave for the UK with Darren Ryan. As normal he collected them from the yard, checked the paperwork and had everything organised which is a big help on a Friday night. Tiffield Tarquin won his semi final of the coral Essex vase in f.t.o.n I copied the write ups from the star and put it below.
There would be few more popular winners of a Category One competition than Tiffield Tarquin. The interview with owner Bill McColl who owns the dog with his wife Jenny during the Derby at Towcester last year was one of the best moments of 2025.
Their star performer was exceptional at Romford last night, smashing out and making all in his Coral Essex Vase semi-final. His split of 13.26 was only two spots slower than Gary The Arb’s sectional when he broke the track record, and he had Belinda Green’s runner three lengths behind him.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE FOUR RUNNERS AT ROMFORD SWIFT KRAB , ALWAYS WRIGHTY , TIFFIELD TARQUIN AND CHARLIE LOVES ME.
SATURDAY 17TH OF JANUARY
We needed more meat which was the first job of the day. The rest of the day at the kennels was took up preparing hounds. We did work on the gallop to get it ready for tomorrow as we are going to do more preparation work with hounds.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK AND IRELAND WE HAD ONE WINNER LAST NIGHT AT ROMFORD TIFFIELD TARQUIN. TONIGHT WE HAVE SEVEN RUNNERS AT CENTRAL PARK HOLLYBANKS. AT DONCASTER UNANIMOUS LEON. AT SHELBOURNE PARK HARLEQUIN GEE UP. AT YARMOUTH SWIFT COMRADE , MR JAMES AND SWIFT DEPOT.
SUNDAY 18TH OF JANUARY
It will be a day for doing all the paperwork including VAT, mating forms and naming forms. And the rest of the day will be took up preparing hounds for schooling and I have also got a brood to go to Cuddy’s stud. And what ever happens I’ll watch Newcastle against Wolves, another must win game.
ON THE OPEN SCENE IN THE UK AND IRELAND WE HAVE TWO RUNNERS AT CLOMEL SWIFT HAYLEY AND AT YARMOUTH SWIFT AIRY.
