Monday 21st April:
The rain has finally stopped and its a nice day but a bit cool. I had to go for meat as we ran out. At the kennels were preparing more hounds for schooling. This afternoon I’ll watch a bit of dog racing and a bit of football. We will also prepare for a busy week. On this week greyhound star British performance of the week we have one hound on the list Earls poppy at Central park. The shorter six bend trip has provided the last couple of selections at Central Park. (taking from this week greyhound star) That sequence was extended by Earls Poppy on Saturday night. Julie Luckhurst’s ex-Crayford A5 runner had shown plenty of stamina in her 491m races. Saturday’s 664m open was her six bend debut but the local punters had few doubts (8/13f) and she duly justified their faith with an eight length victory in 40.39. Only track record holder Garfiney Blaze (40.12) has gone faster this year.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE ONE RUNNER TONIGHT AT NOTTINGHAM: SWIFT KIPPER.
TUESDAY THE 22ND OF APRIL
An overcast day but no rain and the first job of the day was to empty a truck load of paper bedding. We had run out of paper bedding so once we got the truck empty we changed all the beds in the kennels. We have been to the vets to get the passports updated for the hounds that are sold that are going to the UK to their new owners. We had John O’Reily checking hounds that are schooling and to finish a good day’s work off we are tiding up around the yard.
WEDNESDAY THE 23RD OF APRIL
I did the weekly run to the vets. Ross Myles collected hounds that are sold going to the UK from the yard which is a massive help. At the kennels we did maintenance work. We got a delivery of bag dog food from time and it rained all day.
THURSDAY THE 24TH OF APRIL
The first job on Thursday was to go back to the vets as we had a brood bitch that had to have a c section, she only had one pup but mother and pup doing fantastic. We had to be fed up early for trials in Kilkenny and I spent the whole day running around in circles and I was never as pleased to see the end of the day.
FRIDAY THE 25TH OF APRIL
We needed tripe , chicken and beef so that had to be collected. We are making beds for mother and pups. We did a major tidy up around the yard and the main job of the day was preparing more hounds for schooling.
