WEEK STARTING MONDAY THE 23RD OF FEBRUARY

MONDAY THE 23RD OF FEBRUARY

We need meat , food for pups and we have a heap of rubbish to go away after the big tidy up. We have a brood having pups as we do the website at 7am she has two up to now and a load more to come. We are changing beds in the kennels and the beds in the garden sheds need changing as well. We will to a add on to the journal later today. The article below is taken from todays greyhound star

Swift Magnison was chinned on the line by King Memphis when they met a fortnight back but he reversed those places for Nick Deas. He has produced some outstanding sectionals, making it five wins in seven starts and his early gears will keep him competitive in decent company.

ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAD ONE WINNER YESTERDAY AT TOWCESTER SWIFT MAGNISON

TOWCESTER trainer Nick Deas has high hopes for his progressive Swift Magnison after his lightly raced kennel star claimed the notable scalp of King Memphis at the Northamptonshire circuit on Sunday.

That run, only his second over the track’s 500m Derby course, came off the back of a bold effort two weeks prior when he led everywhere bar the line when going down by a short head to Liz McNair’s British-bred star.

Deas said: “It was great to see him come out and back up the run on Sunday. He’s a dog with lovely early pace and that can win you plenty of races.

“The time surprised me [29.28sec, -30], as King Memphis went round behind him after doing 28.62sec the week before, but times are irrelevant to a degree. The performance was there and he’s an exciting dog.

“I’ve had some health issues which I’m undergoing treatment for, so haven’t been so hands on, but my partner Amy and son Shane have been brilliant with the dogs and all credit to them and the kennel staff.

“Seeing the dogs running so well definitely gives you a lift.”

Having switched his operation from Oxford to Towcester, Deas is pleased with how the move has gone as his runners settle in.

“I know Mike [Davis, Towcester promoter] from way back when I was working for Jason Foster and all credit to him for the investment he’s made at Towcester,” he said.

“He has a good racing office team led by Danny Rayment, who I know well from Crayford, and we have around 65 dogs in the kennel so it’s a busy operation.

“We buy and own almost all our dogs ourselves. I only have a couple of owners in the kennel and I prefer it that way. We got Swift Magnison unraced from breeder Ian Greaves.

“He told me he was a fast dog with good early pace. He was fairly priced and he certainly has the right qualities and is progressing well.

“He’s a big 34-kilo dog, and has taken a while to grow into himself, but he has won opens and an A1 at Oxford along with a D1 and the open at Towcester.

“Ideally I’d like to take him to Central Park for a trial next week with a view to having a go at the Arc Kent Plate, but that hinges on the logistics of it all given my personal situation.

“He’s definitely getting stronger now and with his early pace and wide style, he looks a dog you could have a go at the Derby with.”

Tarquin produces fireworks at Hove

There have only been eight quicker times over 515m in the last four years than the 29.60 that Tiffield Tarquin produced last night for Roy Peckham, and four of those were Proper Heiress! The Essex Vase champion was imperious throughout to land win number 15 in a career that has only spanned 33 races to this point.

It has been a great run of form on Thursday nights of late for Jason Heath, continuing that with a double of his own. Rules For Some came home in front in the Stayers final, though it was a horribly messy opening couple of bends that saw the hot favourite out of the race. The winner has been flying, however, a winner of three straight.

SATURDAY 28TH OF FEBRUARY

A busy, cold and dry day. We needed meat which had to be collected. We had a delivery of Red Mills at 6am which had to be packed away. We were going to gallop but we couldnt as it was frozen. The day went well. Once we get the journal updated I’m going to watch Newcastle United against Everton.

SUNDAY 1ST OF MARCH

Another dry day but cold. Newcastle united were absolutely rubbish yesterday. It will be a typical Sunday were we feed up , to the kennels as normal , do all the paper work and prepare for another busy week.

It will be a typical Sunday where we cook, clean, feed and let hounds out of kennels. Other than that we will get caught up with the paperwork.

The article below is taken from todays greyhound star

Leon on top at Star Pelaw

Unanimous Leon was the quickest over 435m at Star Pelaw in 2025 and set an early marker at the top of the clock for Tom Heilbron this year. He was two lengths quicker than Popper Joe for Henry Young who was quickly into stride to take a win of his own.
